Welcome to Belmont

The City of Belmont is tucked in between San Mateo and San Carlos and for the most part it is a city of hills and few sidewalks. People who live in Belmont love it even though it has no real downtown area. Carlmont Shopping Center midway up Ralston Avenue has a downtown feel with it’s restaurants and coffee shops.

Belmont homes range from California Ranch Style on the flat land by Highway 101 to the hillside homes with views of the Bay and San Francisco. Belmont has great schools: Ralston Intermediate, Cipriani Elementary, Central Elementary, and Hillsdale High School to name a few and all of them are distinguished schools.

Belmont means ‘beautiful hills’ and most of the homes are built on hillsides with no sidewalks. Parking poses a problem but no-one seems to mind. Ralston Avenue is home of Notre Dame de Namur Private University and is the third oldest college in California and the first in the state to grant the baccalaureate degree to women.

Belmont is also the home of Ralston Hall, built in 1868 the mansion is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a California Landmark. Ralston Hall was built by William Chapman Ralston who became a prominent entrepreneur and founded the Bank of California.

Belmont is a great little town and extends from Highway 101to highway 280.at the top of the hill. We know Belmont Neighborhoods and look forward to taking you on a tour of this lovely city so you can decide which area suits you best. Make an appointment with Mary or Robert.
